Children’s Chapel

PHILOSOPHY

“When children are here, the church is filled with a joyful noise. When you are here, the Body of Christ is more fully present. When you are here, we are reminded that this worship thing we do isn’t about bible study or personal, quiet contemplation but coming together to worship as a community where all are welcome, where we share in the Word and Sacrament together.” – words from Dear Parents with Young Children in Church

CHILDREN’S CHAPEL

This is church by and for children. A sacred space is created by all, including the children and teachers, wherein children can learn about Biblical stories, grow in God’s love, and make new friends. We begin at 10AM downstairs in the Children’s Chapel with the lighting of a candle on a kid’s altar followed by singing, stories, prayers, activities, and most importantly: joy. We end in prayers from the children and their extinguishing of the candle light. The children then join everyone in the main sanctuary for the Eucharist following the Peace at ~10:40AM.

Children’s chapel is staffed by caring and skilled teachers who have taken Safeguarding God’s Children Training and have passed a background check.

WHILE IN THE PEWS

A children’s corner can be found in the Narthex as you enter the church. There, children will find worship bags with coloring crayons and small hand held activities that encourage creativity. They can also choose from a selection of books as well as pick-up their own children’s specific bulletin for the day.

BAPTISMS & HOLIDAYS

Baptisms: we Baptize infants through adults on five occasions throughout the year in the church: Easter (March/April), Pentecost (late May/early June), All Saint’s Day (early November), Feast of the Baptism of our Lord (mid-January) and in the Stillaguamish River at our annual worship service in Arlington (mid-August). Please contact Rev. Rebecca for more information.

Christmas pageant: during the 5PM service on December 24th, we will invite any children and youth to come forward for a pick-up pageant. Costumes and props provided at the door. No practice needed.

Easter: we have a children’s specific sermon and special activity book for all children. Easter egg hunt following 10AM service.
