We have had a very good week at summer school. Our goal mission for summer school is supporting young learners for our common future. We taught reading, math music, creative movement, arts and crafts, teamwork and leadership skills and personal development. Our hope was to create a rich environment for learning. I am overjoyed at how well everything has gone:
- The children have been great, willing to work hard and they have had fun
- The teachers were really well prepared
- It is a joy to watch all the adults and teenagers interact with the children
- The kitchen staff has done a great job
- Bethlehem Lutheran sent some adults and about 7 youth to help with crafts and games
- One of our Buddhist friends has been helping us to clean our facility and prepare it for the next day
- Marysville Fire Department came and did a presentation/demonstration for the students
- The AA and Al-Anon groups have been very gracious in moving their meetings for this week and the three Wednesdays.
- Our neighbor Dawn has done a great job with creative movement
- Several school district administrators have visited and felt really good about what is happening here
You can see videos, pictures and more details about each day on our Facebook Page.
We sincerely hope that funding for summer school by our school district will be restored and increased. Even if it is, our hope is to be able to continue to provide summer school in a way that is complimentary with the school district.
Our congregation strongly believes in public education and in our public school employees and teachers. They deserve all our support!
We are still looking forward to 3 more days with these students on July 23, July 30 and August 3 from 9:00 AM to 1:00 AM.
